This combined Special Interest Group event brings together the Domestic Violence and Abuse SIG and the Child Protection in Gypsy Roma and Traveller Communities SIG for a session on a Roma-specific Power and Control Wheel, developed through participatory research with Roma women and child protection practitioners. The tool was shaped throughout 2024–25 by Roma adults sharing their direct experiences of domestic violence and abuse, ensuring it reflects the lived realities of Roma communities rather than applying a generic framework. The session covers how the wheel reveals unique patterns of power, control and community pressure, and how services can use this learning to challenge discrimination and strengthen support for Roma victims and survivors.
