The Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research (SCCJR) is hosting this online seminar with Professor Kate Gooch of the University of Bath, drawing on her recent book of the same name. The session examines why young prisoners turn to violence — arguing that high levels of prison violence are not inevitable, but a symptom of morally depleted environments. Drawing on ethnographic and qualitative research, Professor Gooch explores the moral dimensions of the prison environment and what they reveal about how violence develops and might be prevented.
