- HSE — Health and Safety Basics for Your Business https://www.hse.gov.uk/simple-health-safety/
The Health and Safety Executive’s plain-language guide for employers, covering everything from risk assessments and writing a health and safety policy to managing contractors and reporting incidents. Designed specifically for smaller organisations with no dedicated health and safety function. Free to use and the authoritative starting point for any employer in Great Britain — including third sector and community organisations — trying to get to grips with their legal duties.
- HSE Working Minds — Preventing Work-Related Stress https://workright.campaign.gov.uk/working-minds/
Launched by the Health and Safety Executive, Working Minds supports employers of all sizes to prevent work-related stress and fulfil their legal duty to manage psychological risks alongside physical ones. The campaign provides a practical five-step framework (Reach out, Recognise, Respond, Reflect, make it Routine), along with free online learning modules, Talking Toolkits for team conversations, and downloadable risk assessment templates. Particularly relevant given that work-related stress, anxiety and depression now account for nearly half of all work-related ill health in Great Britain.
- Health and Safety in Voluntary Sector Scotland (HaSIVSS) https://www.hse.gov.uk/scotland/hasivss.htm
Many third sector organisations assume health and safety law doesn’t apply to them — it does. HaSIVSS is the umbrella body supporting improved health and safety management specifically across Scotland’s voluntary sector, which employs over 100,000 paid staff and 1.2 million volunteers. It provides guidance, advice and support — particularly on risks common to the sector such as lone working — and is part of the Partnership for Health and Safety in Scotland. A relevant and Scotland-specific resource for any community or third sector organisation.
