This toolkit guides Community Safety practitioners through a six-phase cyclical framework for evaluating and evidencing the impact of their work, from identifying the initial need through to final reporting. Produced through an action learning group involving partners from Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and several local authorities, it is designed to help officers tell the whole story of a project — combining quantitative data, cost-benefit analysis and wider qualitative impact. Each phase, covering need identification, planning, data gathering, analysis, evidencing impact and reporting, is supported by flow charts, explanatory notes, worked examples and links to complementary SCSN resources. It is particularly useful for practitioners who need to demonstrate the value of preventative work to funders, strategic partners or senior management.
